Well well,
Today is a historic day, it is somewhat official (everyone but Hilary has admitted it) we have a democratic nominee for president who is of African decent! That really is huge. I did not say he is black (which I guess he is) because I find it weird that someone who is half black and half white is called black but would never be called white. Of course he is more coffee color so I guess maybe I will start calling him coffee, or milk coffee, or maybe latte since most his supporters are elite latte drinkers (according to Hilary, that works actually since she has the beer drinking crowd and she is the color of beer - American beer at least)
So I gotta comment briefly on the three candidates while there still are three and briefly discuss where we go from here.
First off lets get McCain out of the way. The man is unfit to govern, and we will soon see so clearly that when one looks at the facts everything he claims to be (maverick, straight talker, principled) he is actually the exact opposite. It is really amazing actually - check out the Real McCain video links in my link column to the right. I will make the case against McCain soon enough.
And Obama. Well I must admit I am not a democrat and my democratic candidate in the beginning was Dennis Kucinich. He is the man - totally against things like NAFTA and the Iraq war, for Impeachment of our criminals in charge, and he wants a Department of Peace. But he is anti-corporate so no way Jose in this corporate controlled system.
Then I was for Edwards, he had a very populist message, and being part of the population I liked that. We need someone talking about helping us (we the people for the people) rather than helping the richy rich. (It doesn't say "we the puppets for the corporations" now does it) I was never for Hilary (she is way to far at the corporate war monger end of the democratic spectrum for me)
Then I was for Obama. Then I was for Obama and Hilary - the dream ticket. Take all that momentum we had in February and march unchallenged to the white house, finally ending this DISASTROUS republican rule!!
Then Hilary started losing the race and her mind and she started playing dirty politics. She lied over and over, she took mis-spoken phrases and spun them and used them to attack Obama. She said McCain would be better than Obama. She tried to change the rules she AGREED upon and twisted it to imply Obama was oppressing the vote. She tried to divide the democrats by race by claiming Obama can't get "hard working whites" to vote for him (not true of course but a myth that even today is repeated by the press) anyway, after all that, the idea of a dream ticket was more of a nightmare to me.
Meanwhile Obama continued to take the high road and win me over. Great speeches with depth and sincere explanations of his ideas. Great action in building a grass roots organization that defeated the Clinton Machine - not easy to do. He has inspired young people, inspired many who have not been inspired by politicians in decades. And he has inspired the World in a HUGE way. I have friends from numerous countries that have written and said everyone in thier country is very interested and "in love" with Obama. If he wins the Presidency it will be the single best thing we can do for our standing in the world, something after we elected Bush twice we need badly! As far as how Obama reacted to Clinton, when caught in a lie or a vicious attack he simply said she must have been tired and mis-spoke and that he was moving on. taking the higher road. I will make the case for Obama soon as well.
What to do now? Well Hilary needs to give some inspiring speeches. Once she admits Obama has won she needs to convince her supporters that he is the MAN and that between McCain and Obama there is no choice. Hell, will the women who support Hillary really vote for McCain who calls his wife the "C" word and will over turn Roe Vs Wade when they can chose Obama who is a loving husband and father of young daughters and would certainly be pro-womens issues. Who is the better politician for women? If Hilary points this out then she can heal the wounds she created in her fight for the nomination. She needs to show LEADERSHIP. In the past few months she has not acted presidential, now it is time for her to act vice-presidential.
My first thought is "god save us from vice president Clinton". I don't want her on the ticket. But if she starts playing nice, at this point, I would plug my nose and vote for her. The GOOD thing about having her on the ticket is we know she would fight on Obama's side completely. This we need. If she is not on the ticket, will she fight for him with all her heart? We shall see. I must admit I would love to see her going after McCain. Obama and Clinton would be the perfect good cop/bad cop political attack team. Watch out McCain!
Or maybe she should take Harry Reid's job, she would be good at that, or governor of New York, or.... You go girl, just go far away (just kidding-sort of)
What I would like to see most is Hilary to help lead the democrats to the white house (while not on the ticket) and then to become a power house in the senate where there is lots of work to do, fixing all that the republicans undid during the past 12 years. (hopefully she will be inspired as well by the progressive movement within the democratic party and move away from the political right.)
Time for me to put an Obama sticker on my car, now we MUST DEFEAT MCCAIN!!
